Approximately 20km away from Seda Country center, in the Ganzi Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Sichuan Province, Seda Larong Wuming Tibetan Buddhist Institute hides itself in the serene, verdant Larong Valley – under the blue sky, thousands of maroon wooden houses embrace several splendid golden palaces and stretch to the hilltops with the waving prayer flags.
Founded in 1980, the Seda Buddhist Institute is now one of world’s few centers for the study of Tibetan Buddhism and home to more than 4000 monks and nuns, including about 200 Han Chinese and foreign students. All the students must strictly comply with the commandments.
If someone would like to have a spiritual cultivation in Seda Buddhist Institute, he/she can chooses the short-term schooling system or the long-term schooling system lasting for 6~13 years.
Apparently, it’s a remote place and hard to access – blocked by snow mountains, extreme altitude of over 4000m, bitterly cold climate and rough mountain roads - but worth all the efforts to get there (you can take a bus from Chengdu to Seda). The landscape is shockingly beautiful and appealing. The monks and nuns in garnet red robes walking through the monasteries and streets are smiling friendly.
When you’re here, observe quietly the monks’ and nuns’ daily rituals and other religious convention of etiquette, and feel the atmosphere of harmony and real peace.
